COURSE OBJECTIVES

As a result of these activities, the participant should be better able to:

Learning Objectives

  • Understand different anatomical layers of the face.

  • Understand the position of the vasculature of the face.

  • Understand anatomy of volume loss due to aging and weight flocculation.

  • Apply the knowledge of cadaver anatomy to facial injections.

  • Increase safety and efficacy during facial injections.

Abstract

During treatment of facial fillers injectors are blindly injecting the fillers under the surface of the skin, in different layers. Understanding the different 3-dimensional layering of the facial soft tissue and bone, and the position of the vascular structures, would make a better and safer injector. The most efficient way of understanding this anatomy is using Cadaver dissection. This allows the injector to imagine different anatomical structures, while injecting a live patient. The purpose of this lecture is to provide the audience with an understanding of the different anatomical layering of the face, position of the vasculature, position of the ligaments, spatial relationships of various facial structures. The anatomy of facial volume loss and aging will also be discussed. There will be an in-depth discussion on how understanding these different anatomical features can translate to injecting live patients. This results in safer, more efficient, and effective injectors. This will be presented during the lecture through showcasing pre-recorded videos of cadaver dissection, and facial injections.
